An ancestral Japanese facial massage where precision, rhythm and refinement come together in a deeply unique experience.
Kobido holds a very special place in my practice. I had the privilege of studying this art for almost two years with Dr Shogo Mochizuki, Master of the 26th generation, learning not simply a sequence of movements, but an exceptionally rich and demanding manual tradition.
AN ANCESTRAL ART
Rooted in the Japanese tradition of Anma massage, Kobido traces its origins back to 15th-century Japan. According to its tradition, it developed from the encounter of two Anma masters who combined their knowledge to create a new approach to facial massage.
Over generations, this art evolved into a sophisticated system comprising 48 fundamental techniques and more than a thousand variations, transmitted from master to student.
Kobido is therefore much more than a sequence of facial movements. It is an art of touch requiring years of practice to refine the precision, coordination, rhythm and quality of each gesture.
.
THE EXPERIENCE
What makes Kobido so distinctive is the extraordinary diversity of its techniques.
The hands move continuously across the face through delicate strokes, kneading, percussion, tapping, vibration, pressure and precise rhythmic movements. The pace can shift from slow and enveloping to remarkably fast and technical, while always maintaining fluidity and continuity.
This alternation works on several dimensions of the face: stimulating microcirculation, supporting lymphatic flow, mobilising the tissues, releasing muscular tension and bringing freshness, tone and vitality back to the features.
But Kobido is not only about visible results.
There is something deeply meditative in its rhythm. The repetition of certain movements, the continuous flow of the hands and the alternation between stimulation and stillness gradually invite the mind to quieten. Although the technique can be dynamic and highly precise, the experience itself can lead to a surprisingly profound state of relaxation.
This contrast is part of the beauty of Kobido: technical yet intuitive, dynamic yet deeply calming, precise yet extraordinarily fluid.
For me, it is also one of the most elegant forms of facial massage. There is a sense of measure, refinement and beauty in the gesture itself — an art in which the way the hands move matters just as much as the technique they perform.
MY APPROACH TO KOBIDO
After years of practising Kobido, the technique has naturally become part of the way I understand and touch a face.
In this ritual, however, I deliberately return to Kobido as an art in its own right. The session is dedicated to its techniques, rhythms and particular way of working with the face, while respecting the principles and quality of touch that were transmitted to me.
It is an experience I believe is worth discovering on its own — both for the results it can bring to the face and for the very particular state created by its rhythm and flow.
KOBIDO OR BESPOKE FACIAL MASSAGE?
If you are hesitating between the two, the difference lies mainly in the approach.
The Kobido Ancestral Ritual is dedicated to the experience and techniques of traditional Kobido. Choose it if you specifically wish to discover this Japanese art, appreciate rhythmic and highly technical facial massage, or simply want to experience Kobido in its own right.
The Bespoke Facial Massage is more personalised and comprehensive in terms of techniques. Rather than following one particular tradition, I select and combine different manual approaches according to your morphology, skin, tissue quality and areas of tension.
Both can offer beautiful results. The difference is that Kobido is the experience of a specific art; Bespoke is the experience of a treatment created specifically for your face.
